Quilting Hoop Drum
A lightweight drum made with quilting hoops and heat-shrink nylon fabric.
Materials
- 14-inch quilting hoop
- White glue
- Heat-shrink nylon fabric
- Clear polyurethane and brush
- Acrylic paint or permanent markers
- Wooden dowel and a wooden ball with a pre-drilled hole
Instructions
Cut a 17-inch square of fabric. Spread glue on opposing faces of the hoops. Place the inner hoop on a flat surface, lay the fabric over it, fit the outer hoop over the top, and tighten while smoothing wrinkles. Let the glue dry. Heat-shrink the fabric with an iron on the nylon setting, trim the excess, paint a design, and seal with polyurethane. Make a drumstick by cutting the dowel to eight inches and gluing the wooden ball to one end.
