Why singing is such a strong early-literacy tool
Simply singing with a child connects neural pathways and increases the ability to retain information. Songs slow language down, repeat it, and make it easier for children to hold in memory — giving them more than entertainment, and a strong foundation for later reading.
What Singing Builds
- Vocabulary through repeated, meaningful words.
- Phonological awareness through rhyme, rhythm, and broken-apart syllables.
- Print motivation because songs make books feel welcoming instead of intimidating.
- Print awareness when children can match what they hear to what they see on the page.
Shareable Handout
The project also offered printable literacy handouts so teachers, librarians, and community groups could spread the idea beyond the website itself.
