This month, a song to honor my new friends in Australia! When this song was added to my site I was on my way back to the United States, having had a wonderful time after giving a series of workshops on 'Opening the Doors to Early Literacy'. Here's a GREAT SITE that has lots of fun facts about these and many other amazing animals who make their home in the Australian Outback. Be sure to show children a map so they can see how far away (or close) they are to this amazing continent! Print out the pictures on the print version of this to show the children what the animals look like. They include text which highlights the alliterations. You can always add more or different animals, too. Walkin' in the Outback I did see
Lyrics
1. I was walkin' in the Outback and suddenly I did see
A quite delightful dingo, he was lookin' right at me
And so I said, "G'day mate.
Would you like to come and play?"
He gave a little smile and then
He turned and walked away
Oh riddle-dee raddle-dee ray, it was a fine spring day
2. I was walkin' in the Outback and suddenly I did see
A clipping, clopping camel, he was lookin' right at me
And so I said, "G'day mate.
Would you like to come and play?"
He gave a little smile and then
He turned and walked away
Oh riddle-dee raddle-dee ray, it was a fine spring day
3. I was walkin' in the Outback and suddenly I did see
A cackling kookaburra, he was lookin' right at me
And so I said, "G'day mate.
Would you like to come and play?"
He gave a little smile and then
He turned and walked away
Oh riddle-dee raddle-dee ray, it was a fine spring day
4. I was walkin' in the Outback and suddenly I did see
A baby blue tongue lizard, he was lookin' right at me
And so I said, "G'day mate.
Would you like to come and play?"
He gave a little smile and then
He turned and walked away
Oh riddle-dee raddle-dee ray, it was a fine spring day
5. I was walkin' in the Outback and suddenly I did see
A kindly kangaroo and he was lookin' right at me
And so I said, "G'day mate.
Would you like to come and play?"
He gave a little smile and then
He turned and walked away
Oh riddle-dee raddle-dee ray, it was a fine spring day
