This is another one of those songs we take for granted children know, but in fact, it's disappearing from their song vocabulary. This is the first year I have found more children don't know this song than do. Why does it matter? Because the benefits of singing are too great to be ignored. Jack Norworth, who wrote the lyrics, didn't play ba seball
and had never attended a game. But he know a song a bout
baseball would be a hit, and it was!
This song originally had several verses about Kate Casey,
whose date wanted to take her to a show. She asked to go
to a baseball game instead.
