Song For The Children's Librarian

For over thirty years I have been honored to work alongside children's librarians as I have presented my concerts in a library public library setting. I realized early on how unique these men and women are. They are arguably the only adults children interact with from the time they are born until they move to adulthood. They get to know our families, neighborhoods and communities, and are fierce advocates for our children. If you are a children's librarian this song is my way of saying thank you. If you have or know a children's librarian, I hope this song offers you a minute to honor them along with me.
Lyrics
In the smallest part of the biggest place,
Where the words and pictures in covers are placed
She's the one who holds the key
To the children's corner of the library
In a place where the tables and chairs are small
And the second shelf can be quite tall.
He's the one you'll want to see
At the children's corner of the library
When you visit she'll read a story to you
And she may even sing a song or two
Anything at all to get her message through
And make a reader of you
When you're still in your mother's and father's arms
It will all be new but you won't be alarmed
For a gentle face you'll see
He has magical puppets to share with you
And he'll take you to places you never knew
Anything at all to get his message through
As your mind and your bones and your spirit grow
There are so many things you'll be wanting to know
And you'll know just who to see
In the smallest part of the biggest place
In the children's corner of the library
