Groundhog Day

Song of the Month · 2018

February 2nd is Groundhog Day, and every year the famous groundhog named Punxsutawney Phil predicts either six more weeks of winter or an early spring. The town of Punxsutanwney, Pennsylvania celebrates with a festival of food and music. Children LOVE saying big words, so I've used Phil's name a lot in this song. Be sure to sing it slowly enough for your children to sing along!

Lyrics

Every year on February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil comes out of his hole. If he sees his shadow, it means six more weeks of winter. If he doesn't, it means there will be an early spring. Since you can only see your shadow when there is light, seeing your shadow means it's a sunny day — which means more winter! Children LOVE saying big words, so Phil's name is used a lot in this song. Be sure to sing it slowly enough for your children to sing along!
