One of the fun things about having a song of the month, is that I can respond to news events. Last month (October, 21st, 2008), news broke of what scientists are calling a 'Dinosaur Dance Floor' on the border of Arizona and Utah, in the United States. This is a news story that deserves a song! Below is a short recap, in case you missed the news, as well as links to articles you can read for more information. Scientists found an area located by a watering hole where they believe at least 4 different kinds of dinosaurs interacted socially. There appear to be a variety of tracks and tail drag marks that indicate what scientist have actually dubbed the 'Dinosaur Dance Floor.' How fun is that?! For your interest, here are Links to news articles: National Geographic Science Daily Overview of Dinosaur Tracking Before playing the song below, share the information with children and show them a map of the United States, locating Arizona and Utah. Teach them the MORE FUN: Cut out large footprints from four or more different kinds of dinosaurs and stick to carpet using Velcro; or you can just lay them down on a hard floor. I suggest you laminate them if you want to re-use them later. ( The Printable Words and Instructions have drawings of the footprints of some dinosaurs you can use for patterns Children can follow a set of footprints as they dance around. Put

Lyrics

In October 2008, news broke of what scientists are calling a "Dinosaur Dance Floor" on the border of Arizona and Utah — an area by a watering hole where at least 4 different kinds of dinosaurs appear to have interacted socially. Teach children the dances as indicated in the lyrics.

Put on your shirt, pull on your pants
We're goin' to Arizona, gonna do a little dance
At the dinosaur dance floor
We're goin' to the dinosaur dance floor
It's newly discovered and the ground is covered
With the prints of the dancing dinosaurs

CHORUS:
Put your claws up and stomp around
Drag your long tail on the ground
At the dinosaur dance floor
We're goin' to the dinosaur dance floor
It's newly discovered and the ground is covered
With the prints of the dancing dinosaurs

Do the twist like the dinosaurs did
All the moms and dads and dinosaur kids
Jump on two feet, jump some more
Now everybody freeze, now everybody roar!

CHORUS

Do the swim like the dinosaurs did
All the moms and dads, and the dinosaur kids
Take a drink of water 'fore it's time to go
Put your claws up high, put your claws down low

CHORUS
