Nancy's Website Usage Guide

This guide covers everything you need to know to manage and update your two websites. No technical knowledge required.

Your Two Websites

SiteWeb Address
Nancy Musicnancy.mcohen3.com/nancymusic/
Sing With Our Kidsnancy.mcohen3.com/singwithourkids/

Both sites work the same way — you can edit any page directly in your browser, no special software needed.

Part 1: How to Edit Any Page

Step 1 — Go to the page you want to edit

Open the page in your browser just like a visitor would.

Step 2 — Add the edit password to the web address

Click in the address bar at the top of your browser and add ?edit= followed by the password Michael gave you, then press Enter.

Example: If you want to edit the About page on Nancy Music, the address bar should look like:

nancy.mcohen3.com/nancymusic/about.php?edit=YOUR-PASSWORD-HERE

Step 3 — Edit the page

A dark blue bar will appear at the top of the page that says "Edit Mode". The page content will turn into an editor — like a simple word processor right in your browser.

You can:

Step 4 — Save your changes

Click the green "Save" button in the dark blue bar at the top.

A quick message will confirm it saved. Your changes are live immediately — anyone visiting the page will see them right away.

Step 5 — Exit edit mode

Click the gray "Exit Edit Mode" button in the top bar, or simply visit the page address without the ?edit=... part.

Part 2: Uploading Images

While in Edit Mode, you can upload photos and images directly from your computer.

  1. Click the blue "Upload Image" button in the top bar
  2. A small window will pop up — click "Choose an image to upload"
  3. Find the image on your computer and select it
  4. A preview will appear so you can confirm it's the right photo
  5. Click "Copy URL" to copy the image address
  6. Close the upload window
  7. In the editor, click the image icon in the toolbar and paste the URL

Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP

Part 3: The Text Editor Toolbar

When you're in Edit Mode, a toolbar appears above the content area with these buttons:

Song Pages

Nancy Music has over 240 individual song pages. Each one lives at an address like:

/nancymusic/songs/hello-my-friends.php

You can edit any song page the same way — add ?edit= and your password to the end of its address.

Activity Guides

There are 11 activity guide pages, each at an address like:

/nancymusic/activities/homemade-instruments.php

Edit them the same way as any other page.

Part 5: Song of the Month — Special Editor

The Song of the Month page has its own dedicated editing form. It's designed to make it easy to post a new featured song each month.

To edit the current Song of the Month:

  1. Go to the Song of the Month page and add ?edit= and your password to the address bar
  2. The Song of the Month editor will appear (not the regular text editor)
  3. You'll see fields for all the song details

Fields you can fill in:

FieldWhat to enter
Song TitleThe name of the song (required)
Subtitle / TaglineA short description, e.g. "A greeting song for circle time"
Month / YearType it out, e.g. "May 2025"
MP3 AudioUpload an audio file from your computer
Lyrics PDFUpload a PDF of the lyrics
Sheet Music PDFUpload a PDF of the sheet music
Description / NotesA short paragraph about the song, teaching ideas, etc.
LyricsType the lyrics directly — one line per line, blank line between verses

To post a brand-new song for the month:

  1. Click the purple "+ Post New Song" button in the top bar
  2. All the fields will clear so you can start fresh
  3. Fill in the details for the new song
  4. Click "Save Changes"

Important: When you save a new song, the previous song is automatically saved to the archive. Visitors can browse the archive by month or alphabetically — you don't have to manage that yourself.

Part 7: Quick Reference

Edit passwords

Both sites each have their own password. Michael has them — ask him if you need a reminder.

How to get to edit mode — step by step reminder

  1. Go to the page you want to change
  2. Click in the address bar at the top of your browser
  3. At the very end of the address, type ?edit= and your password (no spaces)
  4. Press Enter
  5. The blue edit bar appears at the top — you're in edit mode
  6. Make your changes
  7. Click the green Save button
  8. Click Exit Edit Mode when done

Part 8: Tips and Things to Know

Changes are instant. The moment you click Save, the page is updated live on the internet. There's no "preview" step.

You can undo in the editor using the Undo button in the toolbar, but only while you're still in edit mode. Once you save, the previous content is replaced.

Images must be uploaded to the site before they can appear on a page. You can't just paste an image from your desktop into the editor — use the Upload Image button first to upload it, then insert it.

Links to other websites — when adding a link, paste the full web address including https://. Links within your own sites should start with /nancymusic/ or /singwithourkids/.

The editor looks like the live page. What you see in the editor is very close to what visitors will see. If something looks wrong in the editor, it will look wrong on the page.

If you close the browser without saving, your changes will be lost. Always click Save before closing or navigating away.

Both sites are independent. Changes to Nancy Music don't affect Sing With Our Kids, and vice versa.
